Dutch Global Health Hub newsletter - June 2024

Dear Partners and friends of the Hub,

This is already our third newsletter of the year and also the last one before summer! The first half of 2024 has been incredibly busy and successful at the Global Health Hub. With summer approaching, we are slowly looking ahead to next year. Hereby, we want to share our newest interviews and updates with you.

Interview Highlights

We are thrilled to announce yet another set of interviews. The first one concerns our partner IAVI. We spoke to Dr. Swati Gupta, Vice President and Head of Emerging Infectious Diseases at IAVI. “We engage with communities to help them understand the ins and outs of conducting clinical trials and to inform best practices. We offer training, mentorship, and advanced degree programs, including on how to write grants, leading to more African- and Indian-led scientific publications and supporting the next generation of scientific leadership in the region.”

The role of youth in global health and in shaping health policies and decisions is crucial. Their perspectives, innovation, and energy are vital to addressing the challenges of today and ensuring a healthier future for all. During the second interview we spoke to Sie Meng Lee, one of the two coordinators of the Youth Delegate Program at IFMSA-NL who elaborated on this year’s two key themes: climate and health, and mental health. Lee: “Through the Hub, we can connect with partner organisations abroad. Together, we can share our expertise and gather experiences.” Read all about it.

At the WHA, Youth Delegate Lara was present to follow the meetings and make a statement, interested to hear her ? You can watch the video via this link

We invite all youth organizations passionate about global health to join our Global Health Hub!

Co-Leader Meeting

On April 18th the first co-leader event of the Hub took place. Co-leaders from the three Communities of Practice came together to discuss their plans and goals. Together, they fostered mutual learning, and facilitated the exchange of ideas between the co-leads. The co-leads convened their CoPs and talked about their plans.
